Strategy, Hints & Tips for Texas Hold’em Poker

• Pay attention to the strong and weak players. Try to play with the loose ones.
• Keep count of everyone’s chips. Play pots with people who have fewer chips than you so you won’t get out-betted easily and so you will be more likely to stay in the game longer.
• If someone bets and you have nothing suited to the community cards to make a good hand, then throw your cards away.
• Tips for cards to keep before the flop: pairs or hands that can make a straight or a flush.
• Always take your time.
• Maths is a big advantage. Good Texas Hold’em players know percentages, such as a 1 in 3 chance of completing a flush at the flop (the first cards dealt).
• Always count your outs, (the number of cards that improve your hand). A good tip is to count them, multiply them by two, add one and that is roughly the chance in percent you have of success with your cards.

Betting in Texas Hold’em Poker comes under two camps:

1. You have the best hand and you are prepared to put money on it
2. You have a bad hand and will be forced to fold if you have to put money on it.

Players in Texas Hold’em Poker generally don’t stick to these though as they want to confuse, manipulate and deceive their opponents. This is not wise for beginners though you should be aware of it as more experienced players will use these strategies.

It is important to know how much money you are investing in a game. Never bet more money than you would badly miss and, as a beginner, always start low.

Players will usually try to increase their limit with each game, so keep a record of how much you bet in order to make sure you are not losing too much.
