Types of Lottery Bets

Most bookmakers and online gambling sites offer fixed odds lottery betting, but not only can you choose from a range of national lotteries, you can also choose from a variety of lottery bet types.

Here are some of the different kinds of fixed odds lottery bets that you can make:

Types of Lottery Bet - Straight Bets

With a straight lottery bet, you pick one or more sets of numbers. The amount of numbers you choose for each set depends on how many you think will come up in the correct order. For example, you may place a bet on getting two balls correct, and choose the numbers 5 and 43. In order to win, 5 and 43 must be the first two numbers drawn in the lottery.

If you place a bet on one number, this is usually known as a single bet. If you bet on two numbers, this is known as a doubles bet. Betting on three numbers is known as a trebles bet, four numbers as a four-fold bet, and five number as a five-fold bet.

Types of Lottery Bet - Combination Bets

With a combination lottery bet, you pick a set of numbers and state how many you think will come up (e.g. five out of your chosen ten numbers will be drawn). If any of your five numbers are drawn, you win.

If you place a bet on one number, this is usually known as a single bet. If you bet on two numbers, this is known as a doubles bet. Betting on three numbers is known as a trebles bet, four numbers as a four-fold bet, and five number as a five-fold bet.

Types of Lottery Bet - First Number Drawn Bets

This type of lottery bet is as simple as it sounds – you just bet on which ball you think will be drawn first.

Types of Lottery Bet - Bonus Ball Bets

With a bonus ball bet, you simply choose the number of the lottery ball that you think will be drawn as the bonus ball.

Types of Lottery Bet - Colour of Bonus Ball Bets

Most national lotteries use different colour balls for sets of number – with this type of lottery bet you choose the colour you think the bonus ball will be, which means that you have more chance of winning than if you try to predict the number of the bonus ball.

Types of Lottery Bet - Odds or Evens Bets

There are a number of different odds/evens bets that you can place on lotteries, including predicting whether the first ball drawn in your chosen lottery will be an odd number or even number.

Types of Lottery Bet - Hi or Lo Bets

With a hi/lo lottery bet, you bet on whether each ball will be a higher or lower number than a number set by the bookmaker. For example, the bookmaker may ask you to bet on whether each ball drawn will be higher or lower than 25.

Types of Lottery Bet - Total Ball Value Bets

With a total ball value lottery bet, you predict what the total value will be when all the numbers drawn are added together. Usually the bookmaker will ask you to bet on whether the total will be in a specified range of numbers e.g. between 75 and 100, between 101 and 110 etc.

Types of Lottery Bet - Lowest/Highest Ball Bets

With this type of lottery bet you bet on the highest or lowest number that you think will be drawn in the lottery.
