Cricket - Types of Bet

Here is a short guide to understanding cricket betting types and odds:

Types of Cricket Bets - Win

A win is where you are betting on a team to win the match or a tournament such as The Cricket World Cup.

Types of Cricket Bets - Draw

A draw is where you are betting that the match will end in a draw - typically this is only for matches that are 3 days or longer, for example, Test Matches.

Types of Cricket Bets - Series Score

At international level, teams usually play between 2 and 5 Test Matches and up to 7 One Day International matches, so odds are given on predicting the scoreline during the series. Remember that Test Matches can result in a draw so a 0-0 result is possible. In One Day Internationals, you need to read the terms of the bet to see what happens in the case of a match being abandoned due to bad weather.

Types of Cricket Bets - Top Batsman

With a Top Batsman bet you are betting on who the top run scorer will be in a team or the match. In Test Matches the bet will apply to the first innings of each team only. You can also bet on the top batsman in a series or throughout the course of a season, for example, The Liverpool Victoria County Championship. Check the terms of the bet to see what happens if two or more batsmen tie on the same number of runs.

Types of Cricket Bets - Top Bowler

With a Top Bowler bet you are betting on who the top wicket taker will be in a team or match. You can also bet on the top bowler in a series or throughout the course of a season, for example, The Totesport National League. Check the terms of the bet to see what happens if two or more bowlers tie on the same number of wickets.

Types of Cricket Bets - Next Batsman out

During a match some betting sites will allow you to bet on which batsman will be out next.

Types of Cricket Bets - How the Batsman will get out (Dismissal)

During a match, some betting sites will allow you to bet on which type of dismissal a batsman will get out to. See our Glossary of Cricket Terms to find out the 10 different types of dismissal.

Types of Cricket Bets - Total Innings Runs

Before and during a team's innings you can bet on the total score that the team will reach, or whether they will score more or less than a certain total. In the former these odds will change during the innings and in the latter the score that will be more or less reached will change during the innings. These types of bets can also be for individual batsman scores.

Types of Cricket Bets - Next Over Runs - Odd or Even

During a match you can bet on whether the runs scored by a team in the next over are either odd or even. Check the terms of the bet to see what 0 runs count as.

Type of Cricket Bets - Next Over Runs - More or less than

During a match you can bet on the number of runs being more or less than a certain number, which is usually a half number, for example, 2.5 or 3.5 runs. This number is usually related to the current run rate in the innings.

Guide to Betting Odds

Sometimes referred to as the price, odds are used to show the estimated probability of a team winning a cricket match. Whatever this probability is, this is what the bookmaker will lay his bets on. Odds aren't this straightforward though. To understand cricket betting odds, you must be aware that prices can be odds against, even money or odds on. Here are cricket betting odds explained.

When it's likely your team will not win the match, odds are against. This is where the bookmaker will offer a return (what you'll get back) of your bet, which is more than double the amount staked for a winning bet. For example, if you stake £1, a winning bet at 2/1 (pronounced two-to-one) will return £2 plus your original £1, making £3.

The evens bet is just that - even. The bookmaker will offer you a return which is double the amount staked for a win bet, so if your stake is £1, then you will get £2 back.

If your cricket team is expected to win, odds on is what the bookmaker will offer. The return could be half the amount staked for your bet. So, if your £1 bet wins at 1/2 (two-to-one on) you get 50p back, plus your stake, making you £1.50.

Sometimes, people refer to odds as long or short. This is replacement of the odds being fractionalised. Odds that are long, for example 100/1 (hundred-to-one), show that the team is unlikely to win the tournament, while short odds like 2/1 (two-to-one) mean the team has a great chance to win the tournament, and the returns on your cricket betting chances are lower.
