I told my friend after the second trip that the odds are always against us, that we're never supposed to win. My friend asked why, then, did we bother going? It was tough to answer.

The next day I told myself, "I'm even today. And I'm going to be even every day from now on, because I'm not going back to any of those stupid places." I meant it that time.

I needed poker knowledge to talk me out of it.
