Author: Paul Steele
are won by one goal the draw option here can sometimes be very rewarding although you normally have to select three matches. Correct Scores: A correct score bet is selecting the final score of a match. The more likely options of 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 1-1 are at lower odds while the unusual 3-2, 3-3, 4-3 are available at much bigger odds to try and tempt you. Most betting shops and Internet firms allow correct scores on games from many different countries. An important note to know is that the majority of world leagues score more goals per game than the English divisions. This makes the 2-2, 3-2, 3-3 more likely and if the company has not compensated for this, good value is there to be had. The best league to exploit this is the Norwegian First Division. They score 1 more goal per game than the English Premier totalling 3.5 goals on average. This makes the big scores easier to get. Half-Time Full-Time Double Result Bets: Double results are available on most matches on request. Singles and upwards are accepted. This basically asks you to predict the result (home, draw or away) at half-time and then at full-time as a double. Value can be found if you realise that a certain team start slowly and normally go in at half-time drawing, taking control in the second half. In this case the draw-home option may be profitable. Generally predicting the full-time result is hard enough but add the half-time result and it becomes harder. Another point is that the odds for the majority of the firms have been formulated using the British results. As said before other Leagues around the world can be so different. For example our good friends in Norway only draw around 19% of the time whereas in the UK it is more like 27%. This means all the double results with draw as the final score are incorrect and possible to exploit. Selections are void if a match is abandoned before 90 minutes playing time has elapsed. First Goalscorer: You can predict in most of the English and Scottish Premier games the first player to score a goal. This is available in all betting shops but a bigger range of matches can normally be found on the Internet. Normally the strikers are around the 5/1 to 8/1 mark with midfielders 10/1 to 14/1 and defenders 16/1 and above. There are some defenders who either take penalties or free kicks and these can sometimes be as much as 25/1 if the odds compiler has failed to do his homework! You can also have Last Goalscorer, which is less popular but does give you a chance of winning right up to the final whistle. First Goalscorer/Correct Score Double: One of the hardest football bets to predict. Not only do you have to predict the first scorer but on top of that fine achievement you are expected to predict the final score as well. Big odds are available but these odds are nowhere near what you should be offered. Mostly a fun bet in betting shops and on the Internet. You could get rich overnight but many nights will pass before then. 12 |
