Ten tosses of the coin result in the expected five tails and five heads.

You have bet £10.00 on each toss resulting in a head at 6/4.

Your total stake would be £100.00 (10 x £10.00).

Your total return would be £125.00 (5 x £25.00).

Your profit then is £25 because the odds were in your favour.

The odds-on offer for each team to win, lose or draw range from as low as 1/8 up to 25/1 but most are in a middle range. These odds are the compilers' opinion as to the chance of each event occurring. The table opposite shows the bookmakers' odds, returns for a £1 stake, probabilities available and the European and American odds equivalents. The odds equivalents are useful when looking at sites from overseas as they quite often do not show the odds as we are used to them.
